Black Knight Charge 2023

Our very own annual ‘Black Knight Charge’ multi-terrain race took place on 26th July 2023 in Daisy Nook Country Park. Conditions were testing due to a downpour of rain all evening! However, this didn’t dampen spirits and there were great performances on the night.

First home in the senior 6 mile race was ex-ECH athlete David Barratt now of Salford Harriers in 33.55. East Cheshire’s Gavin Browne ran well to finish 2nd in 35.53, closely followed by Ashley Buckley in 36.34. In the ladies event, Sophie Wood of Sale Harriers pulled away from the field to win in 38.03. Local athlete Martha Tibbot of Saddleworth runners came home in 2nd place with 38.45, with East Cheshire’s Emilia Platt having a sold run to finish 3rd in 39.38. First vet male was Mark Collier of Salford Harriers in 36.37 and first vet female was East Cheshire’s Karen Fleming in 48.03.

In the junior race over 2 miles proved to be a very exciting race at the front. East Cheshire’s Alfie Manser just had enough to out-kick teammate Marshall Fleet with times of 10.44 and 10.47 respectively. Evan Lewis of Trafford AC took 3rd in 11.23. It was even closer in the girls race with 1st, 2nd and 3rd all posting the same time of 12.57 which is unbelievable! Well done to Isobel Thomas 1st, Rachel Bowden 2nd (Trafford AC) and Demi Baxter 3rd (East Cheshire).

Well done to all athletes who took part and a massive thank you to all support from the amazing volunteers on the night who put on a tremendous event. Some were stood out in the cold and rain for several hours which doesn’t go unnoticed. Thanks to the local runners podcast for supporting the event which helped with producing another sell out race!

As always the presentation took place in the clubhouse and a hot pot supper welcomed the athletes, with the popular hot vimto a hit amongst many! Results below, see you all next year!
