Code Conduct for Members of Club
East Cheshire Harriers & Tameside Athletic Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members. The club believes that it is important for members, coaches, administrators and parents associated with the club at all times to show respect, be open, fair, honest, and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with a coach or any member of the Executive Committee. Be proud of your club.
As a member of East Cheshire Harriers & Tameside Athletic Club you are expected to abide by the following Code of Conduct: All members must
Respect coaches, officials, volunteers and their decisions.
Respect other competitors.
Treat all other members , opponents, parents or visitors with respect whatever their ability, and whatever their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexuality or social/economic status.
Accept success and failure, victory or defeat, without protest.
Keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
Wear suitable kit for training and competitions, as agreed with the coach/team manager and look presentable.
Give a good effort when training with a coach or a group.
Avoid all forms of cheating or dishonest practice and refrain from taking any banned substance at any time.
In training or competition, encourage other members after a poor performance and praise them after a good performance.
Refrain from using bad/foul language or offensive behaviour, especially in the presence of juniors or female members.
Pay their annual membership fee within the period of time set by the Management Committee
Members are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions.
Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.
Code of Conduct for Parents / Guardians / Spectators
Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
Never force your child to take part in sport.
Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding the good performances of all.
Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
Publicly accept officials’ judgements.
Support your child’s involvement and help them enjoy their sport.
Use correct and proper language at all times.
Encourage the children but let the coaches do the coaching.
Any comments should be made to the coaches discreetly, or to the Executive Committee.
Remember when attending events the name and reputation of the club is under scrutiny.
Equity Policy Statement
Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.
This club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following AAA of England definition of sports equity.
The club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.
The club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.
All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.
The club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to club disciplinary procedures.
Code of Conduct for Coaches, Officials and Volunteers
The essence of good ethical conduct and practice is summarised below. All volunteers must:
Recognise that the well-being and safety of participants is more important than the development of athletic performance.
Develop an appropriate working relationship with performers, based on mutual trust and respect.
Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part.
Assess any risk involved in an activity and make safety a priority.
Promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play).
Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance.
Refrain from using bad/foul/offensive language in the presence of other members, especially juniors and female members.
Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and the club.
Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and insurance cover.
Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain personal benefit or reward.
Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substance.
Never condone the use of bad/foul/offensive language under any circumstances.
Encourage performers to value their performances and not just results.
Guidelines for dealing with an incident/accident:
Stay calm but act swiftly and observe the situation. Is there danger of further injuries?
Listen to what the injured person is saying.
Alert the first aider who should take the appropriate action for minor injuries.
In the event of an injury requiring specialist treatment, call the emergency services.
Deal with the rest of the group and ensure that they are adequately supervised.
Do not move someone with major injuries. Wait for the emergency medics.
Contact the injured person’s parent/guardian.
Complete and incident/accident form.
