North of England XC Champs
The North of England Cross Country Championships took place on 25th Jan at Tatton Park, which was nice and local for ECH athletes. Conditions were good and allowed for fast running, with the odd patch of mud and hill to test the athletes. There were some brilliant performances from juniors through to seniors.
Erin McMahon went in the under 13 girls race, working hard to finish a solid 95th position. Two ECH representatives went in the under 13 boys race with Harry Alderson finishing 111th, with James Nelson not far behind in 130th. A great battle between Imogen McBurnie and Anna Rooke in the under 15 girls finishing 119th and 120th respectively, just 12 seconds apart. Samuel Horner had a good run in the under 15 boys race coming back in 98th place.
Harri-Ann Fleet performed very well in the under 17 women’s race placing 62nd overall. In the under 17 men’s race, ever consistent Marshall Fleet had another strong run to finish 53rd, with much improved Joe Taylor placing 73rd. Maria Rooke and Aliesha Smith toughed it out in the junior women’s race finishing 40th and 44th respectively. Callum Fricker paced his race well to finish a solid 48th in the junior men’s event.
We had three representatives in the Senior Women’s race in a strong field. Katie Kay was first back for ECH in 75th, closely followed by Hayley Simpson in 89th and Megan Lewis getting back in good shape coming home in 127th place. The Senior Men had seven athletes taking part with Gavin Browne first back with a very strong run in 59th place. Brother Liam was next in 110th whose coming back in form. George Lewis (172nd), Robin Horner (201st), Tom McMahon (223rd), Jonathan Aust (229th) and Barry Hirst (303rd) completed the team with solid performances all round.
Well done to all!
