Mike Coogan becomes World Champion!

East Cheshire’s Mike Coogan represented Great Britain & NI at the World Masters Track & Field Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden in August.

Mike was competing in the 200m in the vet 50 category. Mike won his heat in 24.18 and then again won his semi-final in 23.40 to make the final.

Mike had a very impressive run in the final to come back strong in the last 20 meters to pip Garth Robinson from the USA on the line to become the World Champion in a seasons best time of 23.04. Garth won a bronze in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and also broke the vet 50 world record earlier in the year.
