Mid-Cheshire 5k - April 2023

Superb results from high quality Mid Cheshire 5km on Friday 28th April. An icy wind had been blowing over the North West and thermals were packed but the sun shone on a balmy evening and vests and sunglasses were out in abundance. If you want a pb this is THE race! First home the evergreen and ever improving Joe Hudak in a lifetime pb of 15.03 (that is about 71.5 seconds per 400m) That magical sub 15 is beckoning. Next Emilia Platt knocking a stunning 24 seconds off her pb for 17.12. She managed to navigate the crowded start and the bumping and barging of men twice her size to finally get into full flow. She knows there is more to come and sub 17 is looming. (277th in the race!!) Next I have to mention the Manchester marathon crew (16th April) Rest up I said and relax. Leave running, eat and drink and jog about for while. Did they listen? No they turned up for an elite 5km race and defying all logic totally smashed it out og the park. Sam Mabbott sub 18 for the first time (17.28) Tom Bentley pb by over a minute (18.36) James Hartshorne pb by over 25 seconds and first time under 19 (18.43) This is what marathon training has done to them!! Back to the mortals-Dan Kavanagh pb by 20 seconds (17.27) Chris Swire after so much time out 18.02 so close to 18 and and only 13 seconds behind his winning age grade time of 17.49 last year. Allan Cooke no pb but close and pleased as he is holding his body together with gaffer tape (17.57) The evergreen Michelle Vaughan another astonishing sub 19 (18.57) for V50. Last year that time would get her about 14th best in the country. And she still thought it was not such a good run!! Kyle Clayton (pictured) no race for a year-been chilling and comes out with 19.26 just 14 seconds behind his lifetime pb and faster than AK82 this year which will delight him. Finally a good return to racing and a step towards again smashing through the 20 minute barrier Emma Finney 20.23. A lot more to come after a good block of training and getting back in the racing groove. What an evening. What a race! What a great set of times. Get your entries in for the next one August 25th. This is also a masters (vets) selection race to qualify to run for England-but you must enter and register by 7th May so AGE 35+ think about it as lots of you have qualifying standards
