Inter Counties XC

The Inter Counties Cross Country Championships took take place on Saturday 8th March at Wollaton Park in Nottingham. Five ECH athletes represented Greater Manchester (GM) on the day, which is a fabulous achievement and rewarded with competing against the best runners in the UK.

It was a glorious sunny day and dry conditions made it fast running for athletes. It was an undulating course with one very steep hill on each lap.

Jacob Shearing went in the under 13 boys race, and ran brilliantly to finish 151st and was 5th GM counter with the team finishing 19th overall. In the under 20 women’s race Maria Rooke ran strongly to finish 123rd, coming back 5th for GM and the team finished a fantastic 8th place.

Katie Kay took part in the senior women’s event coming back 6th counter for GM helping them to 18th team overall and finished 208th in the race. A special mention to GM teammate and Ex-ECH athlete Georgia Taylor-Brown who finished a phenomenal 2nd place overall. Hayley Simpson was selected to take part but injury/fitness unfortunately prevented her from taking part on the day.

Brothers Gavin and Liam Browne went in the senior men’s event, which was the last race of the day. Both performed well to finish 125th and 189th respectively and were 3rd and 6th counters for GM helping them to a creditable 19th place finish.

Well done to all!
